Gardening Kit - Flower & Herb Growing STEM Kit

Gardening STEM kit turns growing plants into a hands-on science project that children can observe over time. From planting seeds and decorating their pots to tracking germination, measuring growth and watching pollinators, children get to see how a small planting activity develops into an ongoing nature-learning experience.

What Makes This Gardening Kit Useful?

The kit combines gardening with simple experiments, giving children a reason to observe what changes from one day to the next.

• Grow real plants: Children can plant Basil, Cosmos and Nasturtium seeds and watch them develop over time.
• Explore how plants grow: Germination, leaf development and plant height become things children can observe rather than concepts they only read about.
• Record changes: The plant growth calendar and measurement activities encourage children to keep track of what they notice.
• Connect gardening with STEM: Activities such as soil absorption, leaf counting and plant-height graphing turn everyday gardening into simple science and measurement exercises.
• Develop patience through observation: Unlike a one-session activity, growing plants gives children something to check, care for and learn from over several days and weeks.

Ways Children Can Explore With It

The best part of the kit is that the activity continues after the seeds are planted.

• Start a mini garden: Decorate the pots, add the growing material and plant the seeds before choosing a place to observe the plants.
• Track germination: Record when the first signs of growth appear and compare how the different seeds develop.
• Measure plant growth: Use the plant-height activity to record changes and create a simple growth chart.
• Become a nature observer: Look for bees, butterflies and other pollinators around flowering plants and record what you notice.
• Create a leaf journal: Use leaves to explore patterns and textures through simple leaf impressions and drawings.
