Montessori Circle Seriation Puzzle

The NESTA TOYS Montessori Circle Seriation Puzzle is a hands-on wooden learning toy designed for babies and toddlers aged 8 months and above. It features three circular puzzle pieces in graduated sizes, helping children explore the concepts of big, medium and small through simple sorting, matching and sequencing activities.

Each circle has an easy-grip knob that makes it easier for little hands to grasp, lift and place. The pieces are made from wood with smooth edges and child-safe finishes, offering a simple, screen-free way for young children to explore size, colour and spatial relationships through independent play.

Why Children Enjoy This Wooden Seriation Puzzle

The simple three-piece design gives young children an opportunity to explore comparison and sequencing at their own pace.

• Introduces size comparison: Children can discover the difference between big, medium and small by handling and comparing the three circles.
• Builds sequencing skills: Arranging the circles by size introduces the idea of putting objects in a logical order.
• Easy-grip knobs: The jumbo knobs make the pieces easier for little hands to grasp, lift and place.
• Encourages problem-solving: Children can experiment with the pieces and discover where each circle belongs.
• Supports fine motor skills: Picking up, moving and placing the circles encourages controlled hand movements.
• Develops hand-eye coordination: Children coordinate what they see with where they position each piece.
• Encourages colour recognition: The different shades of yellow provide an opportunity to notice and compare colours.
• Supports independent exploration: The straightforward design allows children to repeat the activity and gradually become more confident with matching and sequencing.

Ways Babies & Toddlers Can Play With the Seriation Puzzle

The puzzle can be introduced through simple activities that gradually help children understand size, order and matching.

• Compare the circles: Place all three pieces together and talk about which one is big, which is medium and which is small.
• Arrange by size: Encourage your child to place the circles from largest to smallest or smallest to largest.
• Match the pieces: Let your child experiment with placing each circle onto its corresponding position on the board.
• Name the sizes: Use simple words such as “big,” “medium” and “small” while your child explores the pieces.
• Explore the colours: Point out the different yellow shades and encourage your child to notice how they vary.
• Practise taking pieces out: Removing and replacing the circles gives children repeated opportunities to practise grasping and hand control.
• Let children self-correct: Give your child time to try different placements and discover how the pieces fit.
• Play together: Parents can ask simple questions such as “Which one is the biggest?” while allowing the child to make the choice.
