Montessori Wooden Shapes Knob Puzzle

The NESTA TOYS Montessori Wooden Shapes Knob Puzzle is a beginner-friendly wooden puzzle designed for babies and toddlers aged 8 months to 3 years. It features three basic shapes - circle, square and triangle - in bright primary colours, with large easy-to-grasp knobs that make it simple for little hands to lift, explore and place.

Made from beechwood with smooth edges and non-toxic, child-safe finishes, the puzzle offers a simple hands-on way for young children to explore shapes, colours and matching. Its self-correcting design allows children to experiment with the pieces and discover where each one fits through play.

Why Children Enjoy This Wooden Shape Puzzle

A simple shape puzzle gives babies and toddlers an opportunity to learn through touching, holding, matching and trying again.

• Introduces basic shapes: Children can become familiar with the circle, square and triangle through hands-on exploration.
• Easy-grip jumbo knobs: The large knobs make the pieces easier for small hands to grasp, lift and place.
• Encourages shape recognition: Children can compare the different shapes and discover their corresponding spaces on the board.
• Supports colour identification: The red, blue and green pieces provide opportunities to recognise and name colours.
• Builds fine motor skills: Picking up, carrying and positioning the puzzle pieces encourages controlled hand movements.
• Develops hand-eye coordination: Children coordinate what they see with where they place each piece.
• Encourages problem-solving: The self-correcting format lets children experiment, notice when a piece does not fit and try again.
• Supports independent play: Children can repeat the matching activity at their own pace and gradually become more confident with the puzzle.

Ways Babies & Toddlers Can Play With the Shape Puzzle

The puzzle can be introduced gradually, with parents allowing children to explore the pieces before expecting them to complete the board.

• Explore the pieces: Let your child hold and examine the circle, square and triangle before placing them on the board.
• Match the shapes: Help your child find the space that corresponds to each piece.
• Name the shapes: Say “circle,” “square” and “triangle” as your child handles each piece.
• Learn colours: Introduce the red, blue and green pieces by naming their colours during play.
• Play a matching game: Place one piece near its corresponding space and encourage your child to complete the match.
• Practise taking pieces out: Removing the pieces and putting them back gives children repeated opportunities to practise grasping and hand control.
• Let children self-correct: Give your child time to experiment with different pieces and discover where each one fits.
• Play together: Parents can ask simple questions such as “Where does the triangle go?” while allowing the child to make the final choice.
